When a low frequency current in the body tissue is produced usingtwo different medium frequencies, a therapeutic sensation is stimulated. This is the basic working principal of interferential therapy. IFT gives a solution to the problem of skin impendence caused by the direct stimulation of body tissues by low frequencies. To attain the solution, two different medium frequencies are used. The two frequencies involve in the interference with each other causing to the production of regulated medium frequency also known as Amplitude modulated frequencies (AMP). This regulated frequency comes under the frequency range of normal biological beings.
IFT Treats
The major conditions that IFT treat are:
• Chronic pain
• Traumatic pains
• Post-surgical pains
IFT also treats serious conditions such as:
• Damage or strain in muscles
• Injuries due to sports
• Damage in joints
• Inflammation
• Swelling
• Chronic pain in joints
• Pain due to arthritis
• Soreness in
• Neck
• Back
• Ball and socket joints
• Knee
Advantages and limitations of IFT
The most crucial advantage of interferential therapy is that unlike medicines such as painkillers NSAIDs etc., it is free of any kind of underlying side effect. As the conditions which IFT treats, if treated by normal medications for a prolonged period, the kidney of the patient can suffer an irrevocable damage.
The limitations of IFT can range from some common ones such as:
• Avoidance of this treatment if
• Condition is infective
• Body contains pacemaker
• Patient is pregnant
To some serious ones too such as:
• Risks of
• Hemorrhage
• Skin conditions
• Sensation’s loss
• Malignancy
The diversity of treatments that IFT offer, such as symptom treatment, acceleration in headlining etc., has made it a considerable element of modern physiotherapy. The inevitable effectiveness of IFT is mainly because of its tendency to penetrate the tissue deeply because of it being an interferential stimulation.
